Patio heaters can be broken down into two basic categories; gas and electric. When choosing a patio heater you should first determine what fuel type Is best for you.
Gas Patio Heaters:
Gas patio heaters are available in either natural gas or propane and there are some benefits to each. Propane heaters can be very portable but they run off propane tanks which need to be refilled and can run out at the most inconvenient times. Natural gas can be more powerful than electric and more effective in lower temperatures and although they are typically more expensive to purchase upfront but their operating cost is generally a bit less than electric.
Electric Patio Heaters:
Electric patio heaters can be a great choice for a number of reasons. Because electric heaters don’t put out any emissions, they can be safely installed in enclosed spaces without the need for any special venting. They do make 120v portable heaters but for the most power you’ll want a 240v hardwired heater installed on a dedicated circuit. Infrared electric heaters are over 90% efficient and overhead installed heaters are often the most effective as they project heat where it is needed most. Recessed ceiling heaters can prove to be perhaps the cleanest and most discreet of all the installation types especially vs. gas varieties. Although gas heaters can prove to be more efficient over time to operate, electric heaters require virtually zero maintenance and are often less expensive to install than natural gas.
